New Year, New Leagues
By: Sebastian V.
Did your new year’s resolution include more beach volleyball? QBK is here to help.
The battle for curly fries, beer and bragging rights resumes as QBK Sports kicks off its highly
anticipated 2023 Winter Leagues this week, with the city’s top beach volleyball players gearing up for another 8 weeks of enthralling action in Long Island City. QBK Sports is proud to offer its most extensive league line-up yet, ensuring there is suitable competition for every play level or work schedule!
Here’s a quick recap of the fall season:
Monday Night 4’s Champions - Nothin’ But Net
Tuesday Night 6’s Champions - Spike Masters
Wednesday Night Doubles Champions - Bowling Team
Thursday Night 4’s Champions - Pickles
All 4 championship winning sides will be back in the winter to defend their titles. We caught up with Michael Berg, captain of the Pickles, who had some encouraging words about QBK league play.
Michael, what are your thoughts on last season?
It was awesome. Our favorite part was the free fries.
What are you looking forward to this season?
Another banner.
Are you motivated by glory?
No, we’re motivated by anger *laughs*
Just kidding! Yes I would say I am motivated by winning. I’d add that I’ve played in leagues
around the city and this is the first league I’ve played in where we’ve become friends with all the other teams by the end. Everyone cheers for each other. It’s a super positive environment.
Thank you Michael.
QBK head coach Kevin Edwards was able to give us some insight into Spike Masters’ title
winning season.
“The Spike Masters, they were here taking classes every week. They got better and better and in the end they won the league”.
Spike Masters commitment to improving individually and as a team makes them heavy favorites to defend their title, although past season rivals LPB and Talk to the Sand will have something to say about that!
On Wednesdays, the formidable Gotterbarn siblings will look to add another title victory for their Bowling Team and it’s hard to bet against the fearsome brother-sister combo. NOLA will be looking to improve on last season’s showing with an added +1 to their name. League
newcomers Double Trouble will be looking to add some excitement to Wednesday nights as
well.
All in all, the 2023 winter league promises to be QBK’s most exciting yet, so whether you’re a
seasoned player or just want to come enjoy some cold beer and wings, make sure to make your way over to QBK Sports and catch the action Monday through Thursday after 6pm!
